In parts of Kajiado County, something as basic as a glass of water can quietly affect a child’s health for a lifetime.
At Nkaimurunya Comprehensive School and Empakasi Secondary School, many learners rely on a shared borehole located at Nkaimurunya School, their primary source of water for drinking and daily use. But today, that lifeline is compromised. The borehole’s pump is currently faulty, limiting access to water for both schools and placing an additional burden on already stretched resources.
Even more concerning, the available water contains high fluoride levels, water that appears clean, but over time can lead to dental fluorosis, affecting not only children’s smiles, but their confidence, comfort, and overall well-being.
At Tabasamu Mtoto Organization (TMO), we have seen firsthand how oral health challenges impact children not just physically, but emotionally. A child who hesitates to smile or speak freely is a child whose potential is being quietly held back.
That is why we are launching our Water Treatment Pilot Program, an initiative rooted in dignity, health and hope.
Our approach begins with restoring access.
The first step will be to repair the borehole pump, ensuring a reliable supply of water for both schools. Once access is secured, we will implement water treatment solutions specifically designed to remove excessive fluoride, transforming this shared water source into one that is safe, sustainable, and life-changing.
Through partnerships with leaders in the water treatment industry, alongside local communities and health advocates, we aim to deliver a solution that will serve these learners not just today, but for years to come.
Imagine the impact:
• A reliable water source restored for two schools
• Safe, fluoride-controlled drinking water for hundreds of learners
• Confident smiles, free from the effects of fluorosis
• Healthier students, better able to learn, grow and thrive
This is more than a pilot project.
It is a step toward restoring dignity, protecting health, and unlocking potential.
But we cannot do it alone.
We invite you, our partners, supporters and community to join us in making safe water a reality for these children. Your support will help us repair, restore and transform this vital water source and create a model that can be replicated across other communities facing the same challenge.
Because every child deserves clean water. Every child deserves a healthy smile. Every child deserves a future full of possibility.
