Dental Fluorosis Treatment to Begin in November for Selected Learners

After months of careful screening, preparation, and collaboration, TMO is proud to announce that treatment for selected learners living with dental fluorosis will officially begin in November 2025, during the school holiday period.
This long awaited milestone reflects our growing commitment to address the often-overlooked impact of excessive fluoride exposure in Kenya’s most vulnerable communities particularly among children in fluoride-affected regions.
Understanding the Need: Why Treating Fluorosis Matters
Dental fluorosis is a condition caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of fluoride in drinking water. While it often begins with discoloration and pitting of the teeth, its effects run deeper causing physical discomfort, emotional distress, and loss of self-esteem in many children.
In areas where clean water access is limited and dental services are inaccessible, these effects go untreated impacting not just oral health, but also a child's confidence, school experience, and social wellbeing.
At TMO, we believe that no child should suffer in silence. Our treatment program is designed not just to restore teeth, but to restore dignity, confidence, and joy.
What the Treatment Process Will Look Like:
Starting this August, learners identified during our school outreach programs will begin receiving care in a supportive, child-centered environment.
The treatment process will be:
Led by professional dental practitioners and specialists
Staged and trauma-informed, especially for children with special needs
Fully sponsored, relieving families of any financial burden
Followed by post-treatment care and support to ensure long-term healing
By scheduling treatments during the August school holiday, we ensure a calm, school-free recovery period giving each child the time and comfort they need to heal without missing learning opportunities.
